Rybachi Fearless Frosty
Welcome to the world of Fearless Frosty, the ultimate entry-level sailboat kit designed for sailors of all ages to build, launch, and race with pride. Whether you’re a seasoned mariner looking for a winter project or a young sailor taking your first plunge into boatbuilding, the Frosty offers a fun, rewarding, and affordable way to learn the ropes—both on land and on the water.

What is a Frosty?
The Frosty is a compact, single-sail dinghy known for its simplicity, stability, and surprising speed. Originally developed as a low-cost, build-it-yourself sailboat, the Frosty has become a popular choice for youth sailing programs, backyard builders, and clubs across the country. With its lightweight hull and intuitive rigging, it’s easy to transport, easy to store, and even easier to fall in love with.

Small Boat. Big Community.
Join a growing community of Frosty sailors from around the world who celebrate craftsmanship, seamanship, and fun on the water. With many regions hosting friendly Frosty regattas and boat parades, you’ll be in good company whether you're cruising solo or showing off your craftsmanship at the dock.
About the Fearless Frosties Sailing Program
There are fifteen Frosty fleets out there, from Cape Cod to Canada, Oswego to Ohio, Portsmouth to
Portland. We have been building them with our local fleet, Fleet #15 in Portland. There, Sail Maine
has established a vibrant program where they start 7-8 year old kids off in their own Frosty and these
same kids years later are winning races in 420s and J/22s.
With our Fearless Frosty kit you have everything you need to build one boat or 6 boats to start your
own fleet. Get together with friends, a scout troop, or teachers and students in the local school and
build a fleet of Frosties for your Harbor. Engage kids, teach them how to make things with their
hands, and give them a life on the water in your local harbor.
Sail Maine and Chase Small Craft together can help with the Marine Learning Project (MLP)
based in Portland Maine who has committed to donate 6 boats for the first FOUR new Frosty fleets.
You will get the complete kits from Chase Small Craft, supporting material from SailMaine, and you
will get priority in our Fearless Frosty training workshops planned to start in Maine in late 2025.
Our hope with the 6-boat donation is that a matching gift of 6 additional Frosties will come from the
community and if that happens then MLP will donate an outboard motor to the Fleet which they may
use to power a Coaching Skiff, which can be any small skiff minimally 10-foot and quite stable.
This one-week class will be a “train-the-trainer” style class in which we will build a Frosty, talk about
leading a boat building group, and discuss how to start a sailing program. Even after the class, we will
provide customer support while you build your Frosties and Sail Maine will work with you to organize
and lead a sailing program. How to rig and sail these boats? How do you run races safely and for
maximum fun? How do you secure funding and establish community support? How do you make a
program that is sustainable and long lasting for maximum impact?
Complete kits are $1,500 each or $995 each for a “fleet” of 6 boats
The Marine Learning Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law and directly support our mission to provide hands-on maritime education and environmental stewardship opportunities to youth across Maine.
